Become your school's ASSISTments Leader/Trainer

IMG 1747.jpg

This is a workshop to train the trainer of ASSISTments

Participants will leave this training with a complete curriculum for an 18 hours of training to use with the teachers they work with. This workshop is intended for teacher leaders such as department heads or coaches. Prior experience with ASSISTments is not necessary but advisable, even if it is running a few classes in the spring. Highly skilled ASSISTments users are perfect for this work. We will teach participants how to use ASSISTments while also covering how best to train teachers using ASSISTments. This group of teacher-trainers will leave the workshop with the skills needed to train and support the faculty at the school they work at. We will also form a online community of trainers who can support each other during the year.

Even though this is an institute for trainers each trainer is more than welcome to bring a partner or two with them. It is much easier to remember everything if you can put your heads together. However if your district is planning to have one person be trained by us and then go back to train others that will work fine. Teachers who come alone will be partnered up with other participants.

  • Principals and other school leaders are invited to join the institute during the final day, Friday August 12, to hear presentation of the participants work. This will facilitate cooperation between teachers and school leadership on the activities developed in the institute.

    • You may want to attend a training in May or June and get a head start. We find that participants who test driven the system with their students (or in the case of a teacher trainer with a teacher and his or her students) are much more prepared to participate in the summer.

Breakfast begins at 7:30 each day.

Work will begin at 8:00 and go until 4:00.

The ASSISTments Platform is a web-based system by which teachers can freely make accounts, write or select questions and create assistance for students who get the questions incorrect. Teacher and students get instant reports detailing the responses for each item. These reports can then be used to inform instruction. These reports are aligned directly to the Common Core Standards.

Participants will learn how to use ASSISTments as a tool for common assessments across teachers and as a way to facilitate discussions about data with teachers. ASSISTments is merely a tool, it will be us to you to teach the teachers and students in your school how to engage with the data. You will learn to build your own content but you will also have access to the thousands of questions already in the system for 4th to 10th grade math.

Since the system is a tool it is used in a variety of ways. You will hear stories from many different schools and begin to design your school's story.
